First day of school

Today is the first day of school. I have taken 1,2 or 3 of my kids to school for 7 years now and I think today has been the hardest first day so far. I think it is because we had such an awesome summer that I just don't want it to end. I have always loved having my kids home for the summer. I think they like being home a lot but they like school too! Jacob is especially going to miss everyone, now he just has boring mom and dad to play with! Good luck this year Trevor, Abbey and Kyra!

A new tradition at the Waechtler house- Lazy day

On Friday I made a deal with my kids. I told them for one whole day they didn't have to do anything I said. That meant no getting dressed for the day, no combing hair, brushing teeth, reading, cleaning-- nothing except being lazy! What did I get myself into!? I had to stop myself 100 times from telling them to "clean up this mess", or "why don't you comb your hair?" etc., etc. They loved it! Kyra ate breakfast at 11am and lunch at 2 pm. Fridays are my cleaning day so I didn't take it off. I was emptying the garbages and I asked Jacob (3) to help me. I figured he wouldn't care about the deal I made with the other kids and he would be happy to help. To my surprise he said no, that little stinker. I didn't even make him do anything that day. I got the best mom of the day award. I have no pictures for this post but you can imagine that my kids looked like orphans! I guess we will have to carry on this traditional and take a day off once in a while. Next time I am taking the day off too!

Beautiful Blueberries

On Saturday I took a stroll out to the garden to see if I could find anything to pick and to my surprise I found blackberries that were ready. I am not a gardener but my husband is so he planted a garden. I have to say I was so excited to pick these berries. They tasted so sweet and smelled to good.

I immediately made pie filling and I am going to make blackberry cheesecake soon!

I also made cherrie filling from the Gray's tree and it was soooo yummy! I wish there were more of both kinds of berries to bottle pie filling but I will take what we can get! Thank you to the Grays for sharing their garden with us!
